My New Favorite Children’s App for the iPad Mini

Since we’ve been living out of our suitcases these past couple weeks in our temporary house, we’ve have little access to cable TV. Ryleigh has been stuck watching shows on netflix, movies on the iPad and new games and books we have downloaded. Since she’s taken 8 weeks off from her Pre-K school, I’ve been a little concerned that we might regress on the reading and letter front. I have learned while traveling that she can add and tell time. She’s been holding back on us just like we I found out she goes to the bathroom by herself at school now. Growing up is hard stuff.

One of my favorite new apps, is Grandma’s Kitchen. Hard to find in iTunes, you can access the link by clicking here. The cost is $1.99 and has provided Ryleigh with some learning and entertainment as her alter superhero ego is “Cookin’ Ryleigh.” The app lets her virtually cook and select healthy items while counting, adding, and combining complex words. These different activities happen while Granny helps the user cook a pie or bake a cake as well as decorate with frosting, candies and sprinkles.

I’m increasing working towards making sure that Ryleigh doesn’t just zombie out when on her iPad or my iPhone which is why I’ve been so focused on learning, creating and counting apps and activities to help her grow. A few of my other favorites:

  • French Words (They also have a fabulous Spanish version as well) – Cost is $3.99
